Client Background
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is the nation’s foremost oil and gas entity,
with operations that demand consistently reliable, large-scale power infrastructure. For one of its
most ambitious power initiatives, NNPC sought a partner capable of delivering a complex,
high-capacity Independent Power Plant (IPP) with precision and speed.

The Challenge
NNPC required a robust 17.2MW power solution to be engineered and installed within a
compact 649-square-meter footprint. The project demanded not only technical excellence but
also rapid logistical execution — transporting massive generator units from Lagos to Abuja on a
tight timeline, all while maintaining zero tolerance for delays or safety incidents.

The Solution Mikano Power designed and delivered a fully synchronized IPP using low-speed WÄRTSILÄ generator technology:

4 units of WÄRTSILÄ generators, each operating at 750 rpm, engineered for a 25-year lifespan
